Clearwater Lake

Fed by the Black River in Mark Twain National Forest of Missouri, Clearwater Lake is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. This serene lake offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including:

  • Boating: Enjoy a leisurely boat ride, try your hand at fishing, or rent a kayak or canoe to explore the lake’s tranquil coves.
  • Fishing: Clearwater Lake is known for its excellent fishing, with species like bass, crappie, and bluegill.
  • Hiking: Explore the surrounding trails that offer stunning views of the lake and the surrounding forest. I love that there are is no private property around the lake and plenty of shoreline to explore.
  • Camping: Pitch a tent or park your RV at one of the nearby campgrounds and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Missouri wilderness.
  • Swimming: Cool off on a hot day with a refreshing swim in the lake.

The kids and I never seem to make it to Clearwater Lake on nice days. We’ve never been in the summer, and it’s always windy and cold when we go. This last December was no exception, but even though being out on the water hasn’t been an option, the playground and its amazing views never disappoint.

The kids love the playground Piedmont Park, and played hard for a couple hours while I walked laps around them and took some pictures. There’s no cell service, but who goes to the lake to get phone calls and check their socials? Not me!

Tips for Success:

  • Check Fishing Regulations: Always familiarize yourself with the current fishing regulations for Clearwater Lake. Visit the Missouri Department of Conservation website by clicking here.
  • Choose the Right Bait: Select the appropriate bait or lures based on the species you’re targeting. Live bait, such as minnows and worms, often works well for panfish.
  • Explore Different Areas: Try fishing in different areas of the lake, such as near the shoreline, around submerged structures, or in deeper water. The best fishing has been reported upstream from the marina.
  • Be Patient: Fishing requires patience. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t catch anything immediately.
  • Practice Catch-and-Release: Consider practicing catch-and-release fishing to help maintain the lake’s fish populations for future generations.
